This week we have to do a free write for our blog. This topic will be about a fashion designer that worked for an hispanic channel by the name of Univision. His name was Rodner Figueroa and was on the famous show "El Gordo y la Flaca" this show is about gossip and what is currently trending. He was on the show and had a comment that got him fired. He was on the show when he said it and nbcnews.com explained it like this"Emmy award-winning host Rodner Figueroa said “You know Michelle Obama looks like she is of the cost of "Planet of the Apes," Pointing to a picture of the first lady." This was not taken lightly by the network and although he made excuses to free himself from his own damnation he was fired. I find this very bad for Rodner but really happy the latino network took a stand and fired him shows that now there is no room for racial slurs.

I completely agree that there is no room for racial slurs. As a fan of Univision, I hope the channel continues to uphold its standards. Hopefully Rodner Figueroa learned his lesson.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad the channel did what they did. They had every right to fire him. It gives me hope knowing that there are people there who know when to stand up for who and whatever the cause may be.
